No more puffs of air!

Anita and James are always looking for new ways to make our patients experiences at A&J Opticians a happier experience. We have listened to what you have been saying about not liking the 'puff of air in the eye' and we have found a solution to this problems.
We have to check the intraocular pressure as part of our examination. There are two ways in which we can do this. Firstly we can 'puff air in your eye' to measure this or we can use a 'probe' to touch your cornea (front surface of the eye). This has meant in the past that we would have to use an anesthetic to numb the cornea so you wouldn't feel the 'probe'.
Now we have purchased the new I-Care Tonometre. Simply put this sends a tiny probe out that tickles your cornea and takes the measurements needed.
The probe is so tiny and has such sensitivity that you won't even feel it touching you. I am not a fan of having the puff test either So I had a go my self. See the link below for a video of both the new way and the old 'puff' Its easy to see how much better the new one is!(if you can't follow the link just copy and paste into you web browser)

All I could feel was best described as some one tickling my eye lashes, No reflex back in to the chair that makes you jump. It was so good.
The I-care Tonometre is cutting edge and is staring to be used in the hospitals. It is so gentle and accurate that they use them on babies..now that's a good advert if ever I heard one.
Please feel free to give us a call and have a chat about it.01805 628271

Torrington's First Harvest festival...Lemon drizzle cake competition!

This weekend saw Torrington's first Harvest festival run by the Co-Op. It was held in the pannier market in the centre of the town.

A&J Opticians were asked to judge the lemon drizzle cake competition. James, his wife and daughter went to sample the best that Torrington has to offer.

After a clear winner and much debate on who was to come second and third, the award was placed by the cakes and the local 'Torrington Silver Band' played whilst we all enjoyed a cream tea at the market cafe and awaited the draw of the raffle....sadly despite having quite a few tickets it was fruitless for James!

We made the trophy from a pair of glasses mounted onto a spectacle side and a perspex block. The plaque was supplied by Torrington jewellers.

We hope to find out the name of the winner for our next blog, but in the meantime we would like to thank everyone for taking part this year and hope to see many more entrants next year!

Maui Jim Sunglasses

Just because some one has flicked the switch on summer and invited Autumn in, it doesn't mean that we can stop wearing our sunglasses.
If you are struggling with glare, that's the bright light that the sun makes on a wet road for example, come in and have a look at our Maui Jim sunglasses and we can show you just how easy it is to eliminate the glare and allows you to see the road ahead of you. Soon the sun will start to get lower in the sky and the Autumn rain will fall (much as we don't want it to happen!) that drive home along the link road will get harder.

Give James a call and arrange a demonstration. 01805 628271.
